The best of all Months

There's is a lot of unique features of this blessed month of Ramadhan.

For a start, 1.65 Billion Muslims (24% of the world) practice mandatory fasting from dusk till dawn.
We believe all the gates of hell closes while those of heaven are wide open, ironically it coincides with the "Hungry ghost month"

Only Muslims would appreciate the next few points though:

- Don't you feel there's this special feeling that comes with Ramadhan? Almost as if a blanket is wrapped around you with an added sense of warmth, comfort which is unexplainable. . .

-The 1st moment when you gulp down an ice-cool syrup and chow on the sweet chewy dates after a whole day of abstaining from eating or drinking is just out of this world :)

-Not to mention you lose weight, feel fresher and more focused (strangely?)

-There are also many opportunities to bond:
  • When you prepare food to break your fast with your family members (feeling so excited as you open packages of food brought home by your sibling and waiting anxiously for the azan)
  • Cleaning your house for Hari Raya together (strange that even the most hated functions can be enjoyable in this holy month)
  • Shopping for new curtains and other raya goods with my sister at geylang
  • Preparing Kuih raya while you listen to 'Hari Raya songs' with my aunt and cousin:)
  • Listening to your mother talk about her childhood
  • Seeming to be a zombie family eating the pre-dawn meal
-It is the most festive of months:
  • Night Terawih Prayers with friends and family that just gives you this sense of euphoria in a way
  • Many Food Bazaars setting up at void decks with a huge crowd gathering
  • Families from all walks of life hitting geylang serai just to soak in the festivities (Stallholders making quirky and lame jokes while "lelonging" )
  • The many special food that comes only once a year (Dengdeng, Ayam Percik etc)
  • Queing up for your turn to collect bubur masjid is also another event worth mentioning
  • The night dramas specially created for this holy month accompanying you while you go to sleep

Well, as i craft out this blog post, i am saddened at the reality that there is only 5 days to go before this blessed month leaves us all :(
I also realised that despite spending the time working, this could be the last year i can fast 'freely' as i might be posted to NS by ramadhan next year and can't reap the full rewards of the month for a duration of 2 years? :/

Don't you think you've come out of every Ramadhan learning something new, this time, it has put things into perspective for me, specifically: "identifying and differentiating what's important and what's not" :)

Every good thing is bound to come to an end and time flew passed us faster than ever :/ So lets just make full use of the remaining 5 days ok! :)
