Well my non-muslim friends always asked me:1. "Muhammad, how does it feels like to fast the whole day? not hungry meh, easy?"
2. "Whats the benefits of fasting? (why do you fast?)"
To summarise what a person fasting has to do, refer to the picture above :)
In short, a person has to resist temptations (in example: the form of food, drink, lust, sex, entertainment etc) while doing good deeds (in example: not cursing or argueing etc)
For the 1st question:
its just a mere 14 hours without food or drink HAHA! when in actual fact a person can last about a month without food and a week without water so YEAH! its do-able :) Sooo when people complaint they're hungry or thirsty, and keep bringing their water bottles around like a lil nerd i would secretly be irritated inside and say "alamak kental la! HAHA!"
SO ITS EASY WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD OR DRINKS FOR ME.....(in normal day to day cases)
BUT its not as easy as that when it comes to my SOCCER DAY or a hot humid day or a tiring day of walking! My mouth would become so dry after morning soccer that not a drop of saliva would exist, even if it does, it would be the concentrated jelly-like ones hehe. And you can hear your throat begging fr any form of liquid as you swallow the remaining traces of your saliva. In my head, I can hear water splashing, i can hear the soothing sound of a compressed can opening from miles (*exagerate) haha...in other words, water do test me abit while fasting. I will imagine a 1.5L bottle of coke being poured into a transparent glass filled with ice and hearing the mini explosions of the ice as it hits the fizz of the drink! during dusk, i can even drink a whole bottle! btw COKE is an evil addictive drink.....
FOOD? hmm only when i look at others eating when walking pass them, when tuning in to the television and seeing the morning ccok shows, haiz!!!! theyre always tempting even when youre not fasting! but since we are fasting! the temptations amplifies exponentially
Hunger is a funny thing....when you see others eating....everything becomes slow motioned....your senses are amplified temporarily....you can see each dripping sauce from the food, you can hear the crunch of a bite......and salivation occurs as you open your mouth in awe or envy. SO! BE CONSIDERATE! dont eat in front of us please
As of lust or sex-
Havent encountered my biggest temptations yet........GIRLS
i have been staying at home lately so not a problem :) Avoiding and prevention is always better! Like come on, even if i go to nearby Tamp Mall, they will be lots of preety/slutty (whatever u call them) girls! and you wont be able to miss them....so i rather not go out often.
Have you heard of YOU CAN RUN BUT U CANT HIDE? this is exactly the case when it comes to temptations....they will always be there around you...no escaping their clutches
At home, the adverts of Miss Universe airing on channel 5 can be tempting to watch haha! but yeah i would shut my eyes everytime like a innocent child. :)
SOOO girls! please be considerate, dress up more appropriately!
Next, about the matters of the mouth:
Cursing-it is a habit now and harder than u think when trying to stop it totally!
words like shit! or sia ecspecially for me uh
Gossiping- okla! like i said i ussually avoid!
dont go out=never meet gossiping friends=no gossips (simple right?!)
but yeah at home there are tabloids, celebrity gossips on the newspapers too...
Lastly:
MY biggest problems OTHER THAN GIRLS!
MY TEMPER!
i get annoyed or angry eaily over small stuffs
and this fasting month, it surprisiingly okay....not been angry lately....just sad haha
funny thing this emotions......
As for the 2nd question:
I actually find fasting rewarding, fullfilling etc= like i said earlier i LOVE to fast due to my religious and spiritual benefits.
It helps me lose weight, save money and calms me spriritually
I fast cos of my religion and god BUT they are also proven benefits (scientifically)as seen below which is a few benefits from many others such as preventing diabetes and gastric disorders
